We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our Atlas Logistics Team as a Manager of Planning! The Manager, Planning oversees the development and implementation of programs aimed at efficiently managing and maximizing profitability for fleets based on loaded and empty mileage. This includes coordination with the Operations team to oversee company drivers and work in conjunction with the Planning Managers of the Corporate Fleet to maximize efficiency and profitability.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert guidance to planners to ensure timely load scheduling, maximize profitability, and support sustainable practices. Oversee key metrics such as empty mileage expenses, resource utilization, driver retention, DOT compliance, CSA adherence, on-time pickups and deliveries, and cash advances.
  • Develop strategic processes to identify hauling opportunities that boost fleet efficiency and align with Progressive and Atlas Logistics operations. Maintain strong relationships with agents, drivers, customers, and corporate stakeholders to address and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Supervise departmental staff, including training, professional development, and performance reviews, fostering a skilled, motivated team.
  • Produce detailed management reports to monitor operational performance, supporting data-driven strategic decisions.
  • Oversee the cost-effectiveness and quality of Progressive and Atlas equipment (trailers, pads, straps, bars) through thorough maintenance and asset management.
  • Drive revenue growth by securing client shipments and maintaining an acceptable Revenue Per Mile (RPM) for the fleet.
  • Coordinate outside hauling for Progressive shipments, prioritizing Atlas fleet availability, followed by third-party haulers when necessary.
  • Work with assistants to reduce deadhead miles by repositioning freight effectively for key clients, aiming to maintain a low deadhead percentage in relation to total monthly mileage and final fleet RPM.
  • Develop and maintain a booking list of reliable brokers to ensure consistent fleet operation.
  • Track and trace current shipments, proactively communicating with customers about any issues or delays.
  • Identify and onboard new carriers and brokers to provide competitive advantages for Progressive Transportation.
  • Keep open, constant communication with key accounts, reviewing new orders for accuracy and feasibility.
  • Maintain updated records on the planning board and spreadsheets to ensure operational visibility and tracking.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in fleet or logistics planning, transportation, or operations management, or equivalent combination of both education and experience.
  • Proven track record of effective fleet management, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid understanding of DOT regulations, CSA compliance, and other transportation safety standards.
  • Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data tracking and reporting.
